Church Sex Abuse Scandals…Is celibacy an option?

The recent sex abuse scandal in Kerala involving 5 nuns in protest against Bishop Franco Mulakkal, who was accused of raping a nun 13 times, is only one thorn in a whole Rose Garden of what we call the Catholic Church.

Bishop

Sex abuse scandals are, sadly, not a new thing in the Catholic Church. At the Bishop’s conference held yesterday in Germany, there have been atleast 3677 victims of sexual assault between 1946 and 2014. Oh, did I mention that these numbers DO NOT INCLUDE religious orders, catholic institutions and orphanages?!? Shocking isn’t it?

So, what is the solution? For a long time, Celibacy has been a bone of contention within the Catholic Church. I mean, the religious are called to be the “Brides and Grooms of Christ”. Granted, these religious who represent God on Earth are after all Human. They have feelings too. But do those hidden feelings unleash the animals in them to replay their perverted fantasies with innocent children? If children do not feel safe in the “House of God”, where else can they be?!?

Yes, celibacy may be considered but you know what I think? I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, but as soon as you start having untoward feelings, I believe you should remove your habit with dignity, ask God and NO ONE ELSE for pardon, and then move on serving God in other ways, like Social Work.

On another spectrum, it’s not just the priests who we should be thinking about. what about the countless victims whose innocence has been robbed due to one indecent touch or a lewd proposal by some one who represents God. Those little children will NEVER be the same again.

At the recent visit of Pope Francis in Ireland, not all the Faithful lining the streets were willing to greet the Pontiff with open arms.

Sad, coz i truly love this Pope. He has made it easier for the LGBT community to go to Church and He truly is how we would like to think God is: Fun, Compassionate and Caring. He did issue a grave apology to the people in Ireland and even met with 8 of the abuse victims, however, nothing was mentioned about what actions would be taken against the perpetrators of these heinous acts.

  • Is celibacy the only solution? – Like I said, that could be an option, but that would take away from the purpose of being the “Brides and Grooms of Christ”. If you truly have unGodly urges, remove your habit and think of other ways of serving the people.
  • Sex Abuse Victims-what’s next?-  I cannot imagine the pain of having your innocence robbed away, but I can promise you one thing…HUMANS MAY FAIL YOU, BUT GOD NEVER DOES!

5 Life Lessons the Golden girls taught me!

It’s been 33 years since the Golden Girls have entertained us, made us laugh, cry, think and most importantly, inspired us to stand up for what is right and never let go of our sense of humor even when the going gets tough.

Golden Girls-1

For the uninitiated, the Golden Girls revolved around the life of 3 middle aged woman, and the mother of one of them in her twilight years, going through the ups and downs that life gave them. Believe me, this show truly gave me joy in my bouts of depression.

Sadly, only Betty White remains, but as we celebrate 33 years of the Golden Girls inspiring us, here’s why I will be FOREVER indebted to the Golden Girls:

  • Whenever I am in trouble, I can always count on my Golden Girls to rescue me, even if it means that they lose out on sleep or their personal lives.

Golden-Girls-2.jpg

  • The way to  a good time is not necessarily a man, your Golden Girls can also show you how to “Live it Up”!

Golden Girls

  • If ever I want a piece of advise, I DO NOT NEED a Psychiatrist, my Golden Girls will do just fine 🙂

Golden Girls 2

  • If ever I am in jail, I know I can count on at least one Golden Girl bailing me out 😀

  • And last, but definitely not the least, if ever I wanna let me hair down and laugh about ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, I know my Golden Girls would always be there to join me.

Bigg Boss Malayalam…Your time is up!

I do not mind reality shows..I mean, who does not love to see a good cat fight once in a  while, so long as you are not a part of it 🙂

Where I do draw the line though is when Physical Abuse & Violence becomes a part of it.

Case in Point- Hima Shankar vs. Sabumon

1536382098_bigg-boss

It all started with Sabu insulting Hima by saying that her parents did not raise her to respect food, to which Hima took offense, lashed out by hitting his finger with a spray can, and he reacted by catching her by the scruff of the neck.

What amazed me was the After Math of this fight though. All the contestants stood by Sabu, the man who placed his hands on the woman!

Hima was eliminated from the show, which suited me just fine, coz I could’nt tolerate her anyways, lolz, but what angered me was that Sabu was givena  free pass and was allowed to stay!

Now, Million Dollar Question..Did Sabu learn from his ways?

Clearly not, as can be seen above. This week, h tried to put his hands into a female contestant’s clothes to remove an object. When the female contestant fired back, he instantly abused her. And, horror of horrors, she apologized to him!!

Random Girl Musings

  • Sabumon, you are a piece of crap. I’m going to end it that.
  • No one, and I mean NO ONE, has the right to put your hands on another human being, WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION.
  • Bigg Boss, show a little justice and KICK THIS SOB OUT!

An Open Letter to Serena Williams

Dear Serena,

Let me start of by saying that this is my first time writing an Open Letter, so I do apologize if it does not meet your standards. By that I mean, if you do not like what you see, please do not throw the phone into the pool or flush it down the loo, or throw your laptop out of the window. I know you can afford to buy all of that but just thinking of the gazillion people who cannot.

Here we go..

Sexism-According to Wikipedia,it is a “prejudice or discrimination based on a person’s sex or gender“. Sexism can affect anyone, but it primarily affects women and girls.

You, Serena, are NOT a victim of Sexism and here’s why I think so.

Sep 9,2018- What should have been a celebration of  24 year old Naomi Osaka turning out to be the First Japanese Citizen to win a Grand Slam Singles Tournament, turned out to be a Spectacle…or rather a Debacle of words, broken rackets and unjustified bad behavior…all from your end.

So, where did it all go wrong? Here are my thoughts:

  • Patrick Mouratoglou, your coach, has admitted to having “coached” you from the stands, an absolute No-No when it comes to the 2018 Grand Slam Rule Book. That resulted in your First code violation. And you tell me that you didn’t know about it. Girl, who u foolin?!?
  • You then proceeded to smash your racket, for which you were given a point penalty and your Second code violation. Serena, my love, admitted, you are a Diva, but did u think that maybe, just maybe, that all those little girls who idolize u might be looking at this and thinking “Yeah, that’s what a strong woman does, and if Serena Williams, can do it, WHY NOT ME?!? More importantly, Did you not think that your Daughter might be watching too ?!?
  • Which brings us to your Third violation. You proceeded to call the Chair Umpire, a man who is to be respected if not for anything else, his decorated profession ( a Gold-Badged judge under the International Tennis Federation’s rankings and the first umpire to sit a match in all four of the Grand slam tennis tournaments), a thief who stole her point. What upset me was when you bought your daughter into the argument. Ummmm Girl, you should have thought of your daughter before breaking that racket.
  • And the final icing on the cake…Naomi Osaka wins and is  ….wait for it, forced to literally apologize for winning, while you stand there like a sour faced puss who just had all her cream licked. I mean, come on Serena, you are a MOTHER for Christ’s sake. You would’nt want your daughter to cheat but would you want your daughter to at like a moronic spoiled brat in front of millions?

In Conclusion

  • Girl Power– Girl power is all about empowering and lifting other women. Serena, had you done that with Naomi, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
  • Sexism-  Agreed, it is prevalent. I would know, I work in Construction! Does not give you the right to break things when you know for  fact that, if not anyone else, your little girl is watching.
  • Sportsman Spirit-  Serena, girl, u should know this. I mean, come on, you’ve been doing this a while ow, this is not your first temper tantrum, and this is not the first time you’ve lost. Chin up girl!

I’d like to end of by saying this…NAOMI, THIS IS NOT YOUR FAULT GIRL. YOU PLAYED LIKE A PRO, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, NOT ONCE DID YOU LOSE YOUR COOL, AND JUST FOR THAT, YOU MADE ME PROUD TO BE A WOMAN.

Serena, take a leaf from her book girl!

Sincerely,

Random Girl
